MVM RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS

The National Endowment for the Arts has approved My Voice Music for a $10,000 grant.  This is really big news as it is MVM’s first award from the National Endowment for the Arts!  This year, 17 Oregon groups were awarded a total of $1,197,700 in spring funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Funding from the NEA will support My Voice Music’s “Write. Record. Release.” music programs in SE Portland at our recording studio and performance space.  In 2015, 275 youth from across Portland attended My Voice Music to write original songs, record them, perform them, and release the recordings to the public.  (Listen to some of the songs here:  MVM Student Playlist).  Of the youth who attended My Voice Music’s studio, 94% did so on scholarship.

Support from the National Endowment for the Arts, and from My Voice Music’s local community, assures these programs are offered to young people regardless of financial means.  Please join us in a big, “hooray!” as we celebrate this prestigious recognition.
