City Of Portland Recognizes My Voice Music…
Music Matters for Youth Day
November 6, 2008
Whereas, the presence of music in the lives of youth can foster personal, social, creative and intellectual development; and
Whereas, music is a powerful tool to transform marginalized and at risk youth; and
Whereas, our future thinkers and doers will have an advantage in the competitive economic world by integrating the artistic form of music in their lives
Whereas, many Portland non-profits have recognized the value of music for youth and have created programs that responded to this need; and
Whereas, the following non-profits are among those who have greatly contributed to bringing music back into the lives of the next generation: Old Library Studio, Rock n Roll Camp for Girls, P:ear, My Voice Music, Ethos, Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, The First Octave Fund, and Six String Central School of Music.
Now, therefore, I Tom Potter, mayor of the City of Portland, do hereby declare November 6th 2008 to be
Music Matters for Youth Day
In Portland and encourage all residents to observe and celebrate this day.
