THE LONESOME BILLIES RAISE $5,046 FOR MVM!
The Lonesome Billies are a local country band who create, “boot stomping, gator hootin, whiskey swilling music” (www.thelonesomebillies.com). They also believe in using their profound musical and community organizing gifts to give back to the community. That’s where My Voice Music comes in. Each year the band hosts a family friendly concert/potluck/live auction called, The Family Tradition where all proceeds go to My Voice Music. The Lonesome Billies have raised nearly $30,000 through this annual event since 2011!
“$30,000 is a transformative amount of money for a small non-profit to receive. To have this kind of support from a local band is incredible in and of itself. Not only have the Lonesome Billies thrown an amazing event each year benefiting My Voice Music, they have also volunteered at our programs. The Family Tradition is a celebration of family, community support, and music. It really reflects the deep values of the members of this band and makes a big impact in our community.” – Ian Mouser, Executive Director, My Voice Music.
THAT $30,000 HAS MADE A HUGE IMPACT.
My Voice Music recently built a recording studio and performance space in SE Portland. Programs out of the space are free for youth in foster care, and are open to the public on a sliding scale basis through our Play it Forward Scholarship program. This studio is also a way to deepen My Voice Music’s “Music as Therapy” programs that serve over 1,000 kids annually living in residential treatment centers, juvenile detention centers and rehabilitation programs. Money raised by the Lonesome Billies helped to literally build the walls at My Voice Music’s studio in SE Portland. So far hundreds of youth have benefited from that.
Please join My Voice Music in giving a huge “THANK YOU” to the Lonesome Billies!
