We have launched several new programs and community partnerships already in 2012! – here they are below:

  1. An additional Artist Mentorship Program that will serve up to six more youth.   This means are now working with up to 12 youth on a year round basis for two to five hours a week!

  2. Lessons and Jam Night (cost: pay what you can afford) on Friday’s that is offered on a private referral basis.  Funding for the launch of this program generously donated by friends and family of the Gow family in honor of Patrick Gow.

  3. Accredited Music Elective Courses for High Schools:  Youth learn the basic concepts of music including, time, tone, pitch, rhythm, performance and composition.  They experience music both as a band and individually while they write, record and perform music both as a rock band and as electronic music composers.  Click here to read a blog about our first class and hear student music.

  4. Music in Treatment Programs (the second phase):  We have added many new features to our Music in Treatment programs to further promote music as a positive and effective coping skill for youth experiencing significant challenges.  In addition to offering drum circles, sing-alongs and songwriting/recording sessions for youth in crisis we have developed supplemental music groups that can be led by Treatment staff (those employed at partner organizations, not MVM staff) of all musical abilities.   These new groups will help youth to use the skills they learn in our groups to cope, heal and thrive even when MVM is not present!

Thank you to Brandon Maas, Caffe Mingo and everyone who attended our Dinner for Digs dinner in January!  We raised just over $1,000 at this event while enjoying some of the best Greek food around, sipping on excellent wines, enjoying great conversation.   A special thank you to Brandon and his community of friends and family who came together to buy all of the ingredients and serve at our dinner – It was amazing!
