My Voice Music needs lots of help to make our summer programs happen.  Do you have some musical skills plus some time to spare?  We need you!  (you don’t have to be a musical genius – know a couple chords on the guitar and like to jam, write songs, or record? – perfect!)

Below is a list of the programs we are specifically seeking help with.

THREE SIMPLE STEPS TO VOLUNTEER:

  1.  Download and fill out the appropriate Volunteer Application form

  2. Send an email stating which programs you are available to help with to: volunteer@myvoicemusic.org

  3. Send Volunteer Application form to either:

    1. Email:  volunteer@myvoicemusic.org

    2. Snail Mail:  PO Box 28043  Portland, OR 97228

SUMMER CAMPS

MVM needs 3 adults and 6 student volunteers per camp to serve as “band managers” and “co-managers” to help a band of five youth  learn to play instruments, write a song and perform it!  We also need volunteers to assist with set up and tear down.

Instrumental expertise not needed, though musical intuition is (can you tap your foot on the beat?  dabble on the guitar or keys?  – great!) – we can teach you everything you need to know regarding the rest.  A positive attitude and a willingness to get run ragged is essential : )  Click her for details on the summer camps:  summer camp blog

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

We will be two places at once this summer!

Yoshida’s Sand in the City, July 21, at Pioneer Courthouse Square in the heart of Downtown Portland.  We are hosting a tent and need a volunteer to run an interactive music group with youth ages 7 – 12.

Ideas for activities:

  1. Sing along:  Play Beatles, Bieber etc…and sing along

  2. Sing Along – Advanced:  Learn to play the Uke and sing along with

  3. Drum Circles:

  4. Drum Circle – Advanced:  Have an active drum circle with Ukulele instruction and singing happening – write or jam on a song as a group type of thing

  5. Melodic Percussion Ensemble:  using our marimbas and other melodic percussion this could be really cool…also elaborate – volunteer would need to have a firm game plan of how to do this and how to incorporate new “drop-ins” at any point in the group

PDX POP NOW!  Music Festival, July 21, in SE Portland at Refuge.  We are hosting an interactive booth at this festival and are looking for people to hang out and make sure guitars are tuned and people are treating the gear reasonable well.
