NOVEMBER 2012 NEWS
My Voice Music awarded $25,000 by the Furlotti Foundation!
We are honored to receive this substantial gift from the Furlotti Foundation. The generous award will go a long way to helping us continue to run our “pay what you can afford” music programs. We recently began running programs out of our new space on 84th and SE Stark and currently have 25 youth enrolled in these programs. We look forward to developing and expanding these programs so that even more kids can begin rocking out! Music is transformative, we see it everyday .
Read a blog about My Voice Music’s recent outreach day at Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Hall in partnership with PNCA to facilitate their first ever Open Mic Poetry Slam. We were amazed as we listened to inmates and guards, college students and community members make beautiful music together that echoed from inside the walls. The 2012 Student Compilation has been released!
18 original songs written by youth in our programs have been released on our second compilation album.
All the songs on this album are written and recorded by the youth from our programs. Each song stands alone as a work of art. Some songs represent young artists deliberately using their art for social change. Other songs are powerful examples of personal expression. Most importantly, this album represents the voice of our youth.
